fresh pressed

We bet you’re just clamoring for new music, specifically Colorado hip-hop music, don’t worry, we got you. A video, three singles and an album should do the trick to get you through the rest of the day. 2MX2 – “Go Home” Again, bilingual favorites link up with Vince Lance in this clean and comical narrative. Watching Juice and Role Pley flex their acting skills never gets old. We won’t ruin it for you, but be sure to watch to the end.   2MX2 – “Go Home” from Vince Lance on Vimeo. Babah Fly-“One Family” This isn’t a video, really, more like a collage, but the track is definitely positive, which is definitely what Babah Fly is known for. Ichiban – “Oowops” Ichiban murders this 420 anthem celebrating with an Oowop. If you don’t know what that is, we’ll just say it’s one long ass blunt. DJ Cavem – “Let it Grow” (Remix) This remix features Bootie Brown of The Pharcyde, and that iconic ...

Video: 2MX2 ft. MC Big House & Kontrast – “Let It Grow”

Credit, Gary Kennebrew

The visual accompaniment of a music video is so vital to hip-hop, even more so in today’s technological world. These pictures or moving images do the job of either complementing or creating a feeling that the song may or may not create on its own. That’s why videos matter, and why good videos can create new fans. Vince Lance, since his departure from both Colorado and his duo Emergency Room has remained hard at work. His latest video is chock full of the developed story-lines, dark angles and expert filming that he has become known for. In this case, the collaboration with Kontrast and MC Big House on this nasty track, “Let It Grow”  aligns with 2MX2’s thoughtful yet sometimes uncomfortable ideals, all over a familiarly bass-heavy DMD beat. Now, as an awesomely adorable and humorous accompaniment to the video, check out the commercial for Antiliv. Shouts to DJ Rsquared on this one. Featured photo by Gary Kennebrew who also assisted ...

Colorado hip-hop loves the kids

cprhiphop

People are starting to catch on to the great things that are happening in the community. I was recently sought out and asked to write about Colorado hip-hop for Colorado Public Radio. Not only was I happy to have another media outlet to write for, but I’m even more excited that people care to know about what the community has to offer. My first article which was published today (and can be read here) is about the family friendly side of hip-hop and how there are many people striving to bridge the generational gap and shape the future. Beyond the awesome people I interviewed (Bianca Mikahn, Molina Speaks, Chase Evered, and Travis Branam) and organizations I profiled in said article (yes, read it, I’m serious) I thought it worth touching on here as well. This weekend there are two family-friendly events that are worth mentioning, and attending. So grab up the young ones and share your culture. Saturday: 303 Choir ...

Infinite Mindz: A Happy Ending

Dkno

Infinite Mindz was a favorite of many critics and heads alike in 2007, but their unceremonious and amiable breakup left a void in their wake. But today, with the release of their first single [see the video below the fold] as Infinite Mindz reunited, a new chapter is opened in this group’s musical biography. But before we can rejoice in the reunion of this once loved Colorado staple, a history lesson is in order.  We talked with D-Kno about the evolution of this eclectic group and he told us a story that is so easy to relate with that we had to share. The Beginning Infinite Mindz started out as Miz Logik, Frankie Figgz, and D-Kno, but when they dropped their first album in 2007,  Monkey Rebellion Musik it was only Frankie Figgz and D-Kno fully representing for the group. However their first album, which was produced by Coagulated Recylces,  boasted many other well known features like, Spoke in Wordz, O.N.E. ...
