Fo Chief and AG Flux – “Divided”

DIVIDED_SingleArt_2_WEB

Fo Chief and AG Flux have come together on something, and we’re pretty hyped about it. They’re both dope individually, but when they come together they up their wattage at least double. Their project, which is due to drop on February 26, 2015 is called “Potatoes & Gravy” and it makes sense, because yeah, both potatoes and gravy are pretty great on their own, but together  makes for one tasty dish. Check out the first single off the forthcoming project “Divided” below.

Fresh Pressed: AG Flux, A.V.I.U.S, Cannonball Soup, Sole, Planes! and more

image

What is so cool about the Colorado hip-hop community is that not a week passes without some new, extremely shareworthy music being released. I mean, that in itself speaks volumes of the scene, shit, that doesn’t happen on a national level. That said, here we are, Friday again with three new music videos, a single and a one-of-a-kind SXSW recap. AG Flux & A.V.I.U.S. feat. Sharelle- “Water Under the Bridge” The video for a single off of the pair’s EP, How Cliche, was shot and directed by Paul Junior. The visuals for this slick track include an attempt at a layered narrative, but unfortunately the concept went over our heads. Cannonball Soup (Kontrast & Fo Chief) – “Bars” The razor tongued, Fresh Breath Committee spin off, Cannonball Soup have something brewing as they’ve been dropping a bunch of gems recently. The latest, “Bars,” is as clever as it is quick, luckily they include the lyrics on their soundcloud page so you don’t ...

The 2014 Solution Beat Battle Recap

Beauty Bar | Credit, Armando Geneyro

There are some events that remind us why hip-hop is so beautiful, and it’s not at all shocking that the latest said event was The 2014 Solution Beat Battle. Producers are generally some humble and nice m’fuckers, bottom line, and a room full of them and their supporters made for a happy, buoyant occasion. Though the friendly atmosphere was omnipresent, that’s not what made the event worthwhile. It was the level of talent that blew us away. The 12 beatmakers were diverse in style and execution, each obviously hungry for the win, and every single one of them had a chance. If you missed it, allow me to explain the tragedy of doing so. Seeing producers, who generally stay behind the scenes, dance energetically and sometimes awkwardly to their own music is something that can never be recreated with words. They break their necks and punch their fists at various intervals, punctuating the drops, samples, and drums that they know like the back ...

Sadat X, El Da Sensei, Qwel & Maker, and more at Cervantes’ Other Side

Cervantes' Other Side | 2.3.14 | Credit, Armando Geneyro

I mean, who wants to go to a show on a Monday night ever, much less the Monday night after the Broncos succumbed to one of the nastiest losses of their season, Superbowl XLVIII. Well, in this case, the Monday night show turned out to be just the kind of medicine that everyone in attendance desperately needed. The line-up was largely Colorado names, mixed with dash of old and new school national. The sound at Cervantes’ Other Side has become a favorite in town, which, when combined with the green leniency, new patio, and removal of the fucking death stair by the bar, boosts this venue to the top of the list of best places to catch a hip-hop show in Denver. The crowd was thin, as expected, at the Other Side, but the show started with a clean set by ODX. These three well-versed emcees (Lukeskyy, Ceejay Franchize and Leezy) were backed by the increasingly skilled Mikey Fresh on ...

Weekend Planning: Art shows, Birthdays and Hip-Hop

gutterkidsedit

If we can just make it through the week, this weekend is looking to be a good one. Of course, I’m a little biased, because this is my birthday weekend. Coincidentally, there are some really great events that will be going down that I wanted to highlight.  As always, check out the HHRC calendar to pre-plan your weekend. Friday Chubby Robot has become synonymous with the innovative and awesome events he throws. Much like his 8bit Video Game show, his latest show, Gutter Kids, inspired by the Garbage Pail Kids is yet again setting the bar for creative and fun events. Opt Won, the curator knows his events speak for themselves. “Anything I do with Chubby Robot, I try to make sure it is so unique no one will ever be able to duplicate it.” This event, which goes down Friday, August 2nd at Buffalo Exchange (51 Broadway) from 6-11 p.m. features many artists interpretations of themselves as a “Gutter ...

Ichiban, InkLine and Mane Rok – The Gem In I

TheGemini

Three notorious and proud Geminis got together (virtually) and put together an EP that represents their (split) personalities and their diverse, individual styles, all while giving us a taste of two voices that Colorado hip-hop has been desperately missing. The Gem In I, is a 6 track EP by an “intelligently designed” match up of Ichiban, InkLine, and Mane Rok, also featuring Qwel & Kam Moye (Supastition). The way all the talent (even the features) come together on this project, from aligning verses, to the focus on duality, to the way the production gels it all, reinforces their astrological connection. The only non Gemini that touched this project was AG Flux (Black Mask), and his production on the entire album was pristine, further polishing the finished product. The Gem In I, which seems to have come together effortlessly, is an unexpected jewel to the listener, but not to Ichiban, InkLine and Mane Rok, they know exactly who they are and ...
