Fresh Pressed: SP Double – “Rolling Stone”

sp

We were digging on this new video for SP Double’s “Rolling Stone” produced by !llmind and some site issues prevented us from posting as our featured video slot. So, we couldn’t let another second go by without posting it. This engaging video was filmed and edited by Jeremy Pape, and though it’s simple, it’s truly a perfect accompaniment to this track.

A. Meazy’s debut album, The Real Ned Flanders, was extremely well received, and he’s still banking off that buzz with the drop of the second video for “Juice.” The visuals were shot, directed and edited by Jeremy Pape, and really capture the track’s tempo and theme.

Collective Culture – Culture Over Currency

cultureovercurrency

We first mentioned Collective Culture last week, and today they dropped their big project, the one they have been hyping for weeks. Culture Over Currency vol. 1 is a cypher with seven Colorado emcees (in order of appearance) FL, Turner Jackson, Trev Rich, Mr. Midas, Hustle Man, AP, and Koo Qua. The goal that Collective Culture had by bringing all these emcees together, many who rep separate crews, was to “promote Denver talent the way that we see fit.” Though the cypher has been done many times, The Culture Over Currency video still feels fresh. The visuals look good, filmed in a sweet location (Ink Monstr office) by knowledgeable film peeps (Jeremy Pape, Derek Reinhardt and Fa’al Yamin Ali) which makes for a professional appearance. The tight shots of the emcee’s mouths add dimension and the varied camera angles, even more depth. The sound on the other hand wasn’t quite as great. The lofty ceiling, empty office, or both caused ...

Fresh Pressed: Mr Dubblup, Turner Jackson

image

Just a couple of videos to send you into your weekend on this Fresh Pressed Friday, but the irony of having them in the same post does not escape us. Check ’em both out to understand what that means… Mr Dubblup – “Bang Bang” Aptly titled, Mr Dubblup is taking aim at the CO rap scene and busting off a couple warning shots in that direction. Though he doesn’t name specific names, he drops some overt subliminals (that oxymoron will make sense when you hear the track). The video is understated with the obvious intention of letting the lyrics shine. You feelin’ it? Drop a comment and let us know. Turner Jackson – “Figure it Out” Meanwhile Mr. Turner Jackson ain’t worried ’bout nothin’. The new visuals for his Dynohunter-produced single “Figure it Out,” of course come courtesy of Jeremy Pape as another D.O.P.E. Game classic in the making. Check out TJ getting supremely cakey amongst some choice lighting and visual effects. ...

…And it don’t stop. Summer might be winding down but Colorado hip-hop is intent on churning out greatness all year round. Check out what’s new in this edition of Fresh Pressed Friday. Big House ft Ace – “Snazzy” The track sounds like a proper hip-hop Sunday in the mile high, and the video (shot by Jeremy Pape) was built to match, teaming with the Welcome to the D.O.P.E. Game crew, naturally. Mane Rok and Xencs L. Wing – “Follow Me” While Lotus is a big name nationally, if they’re not on your radar (yet) it’s likely because they’re an electro-jamband. Get a taste: An Hobbes – Diary of a Space Cadet 2 September 9th saw An Hobbes deliver his trademark nerd-hop with the release of his latest album, Diary of a Space Cadet ...

Bianca Mikahn – “Weirdo”

Bianca3

Bianca Mikahn let us drop her new video and single “Weirdo.” This video was filmed/edited by Jeremy Pape of Welcome to the D.O.P.E. Game. We asked the lady herself to describe the premise of this off-the-wall but visually stimulating video: “The video concept was birthed out of how I see myself often, and demolishing pretensions. I wanted to play with concepts of attraction and traditional hip hop styling while making fun of everything. I take art, life and the world so seriously that it was definitely time to giggle and blow bubbles and show that free side which only comes out on stage or in very personal spaces. “I got people involved who would be silly with me and not bring any self consciousness into the situation, which my D.O.P.E. game fam was perfect for! It’s a celebration of personality aspects that some might view as hindering but can actually serve as quite empowering.” Enjoy.

Sound Off: Turner Jackson

TJ4

Good morning n many blessnz world. I am always impressed to sit down and chop it up with so many brilliant artists. This edition of Sound Off we sit down with Mr. Tuner Jackson, one of the real, abstract artists here in Colorado with the ability to paint colors with his music. Being an artist myself, it is always interesting to see and hear the opinions of others who have chose to pursue a musical career. One thing I have realized is that for most artists, the path to success is undeniable, especially the drive and the hunger that motivates them, but there are some differences and approaches to many beliefs and tactics used to achieve this success. With that being said, let’s get into it! 800: What’s good Mr. Jackson? As always, like to take the time to thank you for coming down to the lab and chopping it up with us today. TJ: Appreciate that. Hell yeah! 800: ...
